Dairy Plains, Tasmania

Dalmore & Ruell Downs

Dalmore was acquired as an operating dairy in 2018. At the time, the farm was milking 750 cows through its 50-bale rotary dairy. Since then, investments in irrigation infrastructure, drainage improvements, and pasture renovation have enabled growth to a 900-cow operation.

In 2024, Dalmore expanded with the purchase of the neighbouring property, Ruell Downs, another established dairy farm. Ruell Downs was milking 800 cows through a 36-a-side herringbone dairy at acquisition. Current development efforts at Ruell Downs include expanding irrigated areas, upgrading drainage systems, improving pasture quality, and installing automatic cup removers in the dairy. Ruell Downs is now milking 750 cows, supporting a sustainable workload for milking staff and making effective use of areas of the farm for young stock.

Dalmore features a 270-hectare milking platform, with 210 hectares serviced by centre pivot and solid-set irrigation systems. Ruell Downs has a 245-hectare milking platform, with 190 hectares irrigated by centre pivot and traveller systems.

Dalmore was named Tasmanian Dairy Business of the Year in 2024 and was a runner-up in both 2021 and 2022.
